Universal Declaration of Interdependence
International Ethical, Scientific and Political Collegium - Collegium International, October 2005
The International Ethical, Scientific and Political Collegium was founded in 2002 by Milan Kucan, President of Slovenia, Michel Rocard, former Prime Minister of France, co-Presidents, Stéphane Hessel, Vice-President, and Sacha Goldman, General Secretary.
It brings together stateswo/men, philosophers and scientists from five continents. They are seeking the intelligent and appropriate responses expected by the people of the world to the new challenges of our times. A call to establish the Collegium was made public in February 2002 in New York, and its members were officially presented on April 2, 2003 in Brussels before the European Parliament.
Co-presided by Michel Rocard, former Prime Minister of France, and Milan Kucan, which at the time of the Collegium’s foundation was President of the Republic of Slovenia, the group includes: former presidents Fernando Henrique Cardoso of Brazil and Alpha Oumar Konaré of Mali; Ruth Dreifuss, former federal adviser of Switzerland; the philosophers Edgar Morin, Jürgen Habermas, and Jean-Pierre Dupuy; the professor of international law Mireille Delmas-Marty; former President of Ireland and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson; Nobel Prize in Economics winners Joseph Stiglitz and Amartya Sen, former French ambassador to the UN Stéphane Hessel, who was also present in the creation of the United Nations, and former US ambassador William vanden Heuvel. Other members of the International Collegium include Henri Atlan, Jacques Robin, René Passet, Wolfgang Sachs and Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah. Its Secretary General is Sacha Goldman, a movie producer.

On October 24, 2005, for the 60th anniversary of the United Nations, the International, Ethical, Scientific and Political Collegium presented a text called “Universal Declaration of Interdependence ” to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, and the president of the UN General Assembly, Jan Eliasson.
